Star Wars Outlaws Official Story Trailer Breakdown
The official story trailer for Star Wars Outlaws was released on April 4, 2026.
The gameplay primarily focuses on the Star Wars underworld; creative director Julian Gerighty of Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment discusses several aspects of the trailer.
Gerighty collaborated with Lucasfilm Games to create a new group of crime syndicates exclusively for Star Wars Outlaws. In addition to the Ashiga Clan, Sliro and Zerek Besh run their respective syndicates, which causes hurdles in Kay Vess’ journey throughout the game.
John Björling named the new antagonists. He is the associate narrative director at Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment. The production team also gave Zerek Besh distinctive military-inspired helmets.
Moreover, Julian Gerighty added more depth to Vail’s character as a bounty hunter. The extremely professional bounty hunter has skewed morals—she is not loyal to Sliro or Kay—thus making Vail a real threat alone. Furthermore, she has mechanical hands and robotic elements, too.
Julian also discussed that Solo: A Star Wars Story and Rogue One were the blueprints for creating the perfect scoundrel for Star Wars Outlaws. The scoundrel protagonist is great at using ropes and incorporating matinee action.
Moreover, Gerighty describes the several different game locations within Star Wars Outlaws. His favorites include Toshara. Here is what he said about it:
“It’s such a combination of a huge city, Mirogana, which is teeming with different, unsavory characters but also an Empire presence. It’s very dense and full of different stories: the outskirts of the city, the wildlands with amberine outcrops that are very beautiful, the windswept nature, and the settlements we’ve created there.”
He commented that the collaboration with Lucasfilm Games helped instill the essence of Star Wars in all the new locations designed for the game.
Finally, Julian speaks about Kay’s ship, the Trailblazer. Its design inspiration was a cross between a turtle and a pickup truck. This ship can be geared up and customized within the game according to the player’s wishes. The trailer ends with the scoundrel protagonist saying, “I want to live free.”
Game Reception
Unfortunately, after the trailer’s release, fans are not thrilled about the gameplay of Star Wars Outlaws.
In a blog published on Forbes and a thread on Reddit, people are unhappy with the cheap CGI and dialogue delivery. Moreover, the premise of a scoundrel infiltrating enemy zones only to seek freedom does not seem to add up. Let’s wait for the reviews after the game comes out.
