Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Expected Release Date, Details, And More

EA has recently announced the long-awaited sequel to 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen OrderStar Wars Battlefront and Battlefront 2 received only average reviews. And Fallen Order was the first game in the series to do well for a long time. Being the successor to such a well-received game, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will have to be even better to meet fans’ expectations.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is an action-adventure video game developed by Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm games and published by Electronic Arts. The story is set five years after the events of the previous game. It was unveiled at the Star Wars Celebration 2022. As of yet, not many details are available about the game apart from the trailer. The following are all the details known so far regarding the release date, platforms and gameplay, etc.

Expected Release Date Of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

The expected release of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is sometime in 2023. However, neither EA nor the developers have yet commented on the exact date. But according to insider Jeff Grubb, March 2023 is when the game will hit the shelves. The game already has a Steam page, and we can expect the pre-order process to start soon. Knowing EA, they will probably throw in some extra items to incentivize the pre-orders.

We hope there are no loot boxes, or as EA calls them, surprise mechanics. It will also be a good thing if EA decides to leave the microtransactions out this time again. Fans were relieved when they were not included last time, and it’s a given that they won’t miss them this time, either.

Is Red Dead Redemption 2 Cross-Platform? How to Play?

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be next-gen only

Respawn Entertainment has confirmed that the game will not be released on last-gen hardware. Namely the PS4 and XBOX ONE. Hence, it will release on PC, PS5, and XBOX Series X/S. System requirements for the PC are yet to be announced. The developers have given their reasons for ditching the last-gen consoles.

According to the developers, this gives them the opportunity to make the game more user-friendly. This will enable them to reduce loading times and improve performance. Moreover, the game is expected to look absolutely phenomenal on next-gen hardware. And players will be able to experience the game in 4K at 120fps on consoles and PC alike.

The Story Is Also Set To Take A Much Darker Tone

According to Respawn Entertainment, the story will be much more sinister than its predecessor. Cal Kestis will reportedly be “doing anything to stay alive.” Director Stig Asmussen has stated that Cal will be “making connections with people that, in other times, might be considered unsavory.” This paints a rather serious picture of the narrative.

The main character, Cal Kestis, was modelled on Cameron Monaghan, who is the voice actor for the character. Moreover, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor takes place in the same timeline as that of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Keeping the history of the series in mind, a meeting of these two characters seems plausible. This opens up limitless possibilities for cross-overs and spin-offs.

The reason for this attention to detail is that Ewan McGregor wants the Disney+ show to be consistent with all preexisting lore, including books, movies, and video games.

Improved Gameplay Mechanics

Game director Stig Asmussen says that the developers are working on improved combat and progression systems. The resulting combat system will be more dynamic and responsive. We can expect new abilities in this sequel. For the most part, the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will retain its Metroidvania-inspired level design. However, it will be significantly overhauled to utilize the advanced next-gen hardware.

All the issues that the previous game had will hopefully be fixed in the sequel. Mostly the fans want a better progression system that doesn’t encourage mindless grinding. Players will appreciate it if EA tweaks the hit detection system and make it precise. While they are it, they should also make sure that the PC port doesn’t have any significant issues for modders to fix on day one.

Conclusion

After the smash-hit that was Fallen OrderStar Wars Jedi: Survivor was the perfect opportunity for EA to cement its reputation as a studio. It can be the game that can put EA back into the good graces of single-player gamers. And frankly, after the disastrous statements by EA against story-driven games, they probably know they need it. Let’s hope Survivor follows in the footsteps of its predecessor. And doesn’t leave us wondering why we even bother with EA anymore.

In this article, we discussed the release date of the new EA single-player game, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. We also discussed the new gameplay mechanics that come with this sequel.
