Disney Sets Toy Story 5 Release Date for 2026

Disney Studios announced that Toy Story 5 will be slated for June 19, 2026. The news came out this Friday amidst many other movie scheduling changes.

Toy Story 5 Release Date, Plot and Cast

According to Pixar, the highly-anticipated sequel is coming out on June 19, 2026 – nearly seven years after the previous installment.

The plot details and movie title are still unknown. Toy Story 4 seemed to have wrapped up well. Bonnie parted ways with Woody, who left with Bo Peep, Giggle McDimples, Duke Caboom, Bunny, and Ducky to join the ‘lost toys’ at the fairground.

Meanwhile, Buzz, Jessie, Forky, Bullseye, Slinky, Rex, the Potato Heads, Trixie, Dolly, and Buttercup stayed with Bonnie in her family’s RV. Hence, it is very difficult to predict what the new plot will revolve around.

The voice actors for the new movie are also not disclosed yet. Tim Allen did discuss on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that Disney reached out to him and Tom Hanks to reprise their role in Toy Story 5 even though Tom Hanks did not appear in the spinoff, Lightyear.

The news about whether the rest of the cast members are returning to Toy Story 5 remains obscure. One thing is certain: Don Rickles, the voice actor for Mr. Potato, will be missed. He passed away in 2017.

Additionally, Pixar boss Pete Doctor revealed in June 2023 that Toy Story 5 plotline will focus on the story of Buzz Lightyear and Woody. He added in his interview with The Wrap,

“I think it’ll be surprising. It has some cool stuff you haven’t seen before.”

The initial announcement for Toy Story 5 came out in February 2023. Disney CEO Bob Iger had scheduled the release of two more Walt Disney Animation Studios films, including Frozen II and Zootopia. Iger did not reveal the release date for the sequel to Frozen.

“We are leaning into our unrivaled brands,” the CEO commented on the lineup of competitive releases.

Delays in Release Date of Toy Story 5

According to Bob Iger, Disney’s CEO, the initial release was discussed in February 2023. The CEO disclosed the news at their 2023 year-end earnings call. Toy Story 5 was in the works despite the fairly low reception of the 2022 spinoff film Lightyear. Chris Evans voiced the main protagonist. Meanwhile, Tim Allen voiced Buzz Lightyear in the previous installments, and Tom Hanks voiced Woody.

Toy Story 5 will be the sixth installment of the franchise, which includes movies up to 2019’s Toy Story 4 and the 2022 spinoff Lightyear.

The first movie of the Pixar series was released in 1995. The franchise’s total earnings are now up to $3.3 billion.

Rescheduling of Release Dates of Several Different Upcoming Movies

The Disney movies for the upcoming years have seen a string of changes in the theatrical release calendar, including Toy Story 5. The list also contains the following:

Live-action Moana remake starring Dwayne Johnson is getting pushed forward to July 10, 2026. It was meant to come out on June 27, 2025.

Meanwhile, Moana 2 comes out this November.

On the other hand, the Star Wars feature The Mandalorian & Grogu will come out on its initially fixed release date of May 22, 2026. Jon Favreau directs it.

Furthermore, 20th Century thriller movie The Amateur with Rami Malek has been postponed to April 11, 2025. Initially, it was scheduled for Nov 8, 2024. Nightbitch, starring Amy Adams, is coming out on December 6, 2024. The plotline revolves around a woman who “becomes increasingly aware of the bizarre and undeniable signs that she may be turning into a canine.”

Finally, let’s hope that Toy Story 5 comes out at the newest promised date. Otherwise, one shall have to wait to infinity and beyond to finally watch the movie.
