Tron: Ares Now has an Official Release Date

TRON: Ares is scheduled for release in 2025. Disney shared the first visual of the science fiction film, which commenced filming in Vancouver in January.

TRON: Ares Release Window and First Look

Disney announced that TRON: Ares will be released on 10 October 2025. After its final production, the new movie will be previewed on CinemaCon. The studio also released the brand-new first-look image of the franchise’s third installment.

The film is associated with the TRON franchise. The first installment was released in 1982. The second sequel, TRON: Legacy, came out in 2010. Nearly fifteen years later, TRON: Ares will return in 2025.

Director Joachim Rønning shared his sentiments about the latest installment:

“I’m excited to be part of the TRON franchise and bring this new film to fans worldwide. TRON: Ares builds upon the legacy of cutting-edge design, technology, and storytelling. Now more than ever, it feels like the right time to return to the Grid.”

Joachim Rønning has previously worked on well-known projects such as the Maleficent sequel, Dead Men Tell no Tales, and the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. He was appointed as the new director after Garth Davis left the project.

The final release date was announced after years of extended delay. It talks about a TRON 3 release that started in 2013. It was scrapped entirely in 2015, and then the news about renewal resurfaced in 2017. The final confirmation came out in 2023 with the current producer and main lead. Yet, the production was delayed due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA Strikes.

Plotline

TRON: Ares is an A.I. model based on a highly advanced program. He is sent to the human world for a dangerous mission. It is also the first time humans encounter an A.I. creature transitioning from the digital dimension into the real world.

More details of the exact plotline of the sci-fi sequel, TRON: Ares, are still under wraps. Check this space for any new updates.

Previously, Daft Punk did the background score of TRON: Legacy. Later, they released the complete playlist on Spotify and Apple Music. But for now, there is no report on who will be responsible for the music score in TRON: Ares.

The TRON franchise was widely successful, and subsequent releases included video games, theme park attractions—such as the light cycle ride at Disney parks—music, and comic books.

Unfortunately, in a Reddit thread, fans are unhappy about TRON’s accession to the real world. The users described how the most mundane part of the TRON franchise is the real world. According to the fans, the A.I. bot is better off within The Grid since the computer world is the most enticing aspect of the original movies. They also seem unhappy about the choice of lead actor and director Jared Leto and Joachim Rønning, respectively.

Producer Justin Springer said they are remaining true to the essence of the TRON franchise:

“We want to ensure we have a movie that meets the ambition of the things that have come before it. So I would love to do it. And now, the ideas we’ve explored in TRON and where you would imagine those ideas evolving are more relevant than ever. So it feels like the right time … but we have to get it right. We have to get the story right, and we have to get the team right. And there’s still stuff to do before we have much to say about the movie.”
