The world and Hollywood are evolving, as it is becoming more welcoming of the LGBTQ+ community. There was a time when stars were scared to confess they were not straight but today. Many stars have mustered up the courage and come out as bisexual, pansexual, gay, queer, and much more in front of millions of people while advocating rights for the LGBTQ+ community. They have spoken up about their sexuality confidently time and again and are making people aware that it’s okay if you are not straight at a time when the rules for LGBTQ+ are getting more and more difficult.

Here are 45 out and proud LGBTQ+ stars who inspire many young people and are vocal about the rights of their community members.

You all probably knew about this singer’s sexuality! After all, she has released various songs that show her attraction towards women. Lady Gaga is a proud bisexual who has openly talked about it since 2009.

The Victoria’s Secret Model Megan Fox identifies herself as bisexual. She has been open about it and even shared a since-deleted post on Instagram celebrating Pride month.

Billie Eilish got candid about her sexual preferences in Variety’s “Power Of Women” November 2023 issue. She was on the magazine cover and talked about how she was attracted to women and men.

Miley Cyrus, an LGBT activist, shared that she was pansexual in Elle Magazine in 2015. Since then, she has openly talked about her personal preferences and how she does not fall in love with a person due to their gender or physical looks but with their spirituality.

The One Tree Hill actress, Sophia Bush, shared that she is queer for Glamour magazine in 2024. She also revealed that she was in a relationship with Ashlyn Harris, a retired professional soccer player. 

The actress wrote a beautiful note talking about her sexuality for the fashion magazine’s cover story. A part of it was, “I sort of hate the notion of having to come out in 2024. But I’m deeply aware that we are having this conversation in a year when we’re seeing the most aggressive attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community in modern history.” 

Andrew Scott

Best known for his role as Moriarty in BBC’s Sherlock, Andrew Scott is an out and proud member of the LGBT community. He spoke about being gay with The Independent magazine in 2013, saying, “Mercifully, these days, people don’t see being gay as a character flaw. But is it not a virtue, like kindness, or a talent, like playing the banjo? It’s just a fact.”

Phoebe Bridgers

A part of the band Boygenius, Phoebe Bridgers is bisexual and has always been open about it. She is proud to be a part of a queer group at a time when things for the LGBTQ+ community are getting hard due to all the anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.

Cardi B

The famous rapper talked about being bisexual and having multiple sexual encounters with women after she was framed for “queerbaiting”. 

Cardi B and Normani released a sensual music video for their single Wild Side. The music video began raising eyebrows with people accusing Cardi B of queerbaiting, but the award-winning rapper soon put it all to rest through a tweet on X where she said that although she is married to Offset, a man, she has had her fair share of experiences with women.

She also said that she didn’t like the new term “queerbaiting” which forces celebrities to speak up about their sexual experiences in case they express any sort of queer theme in their work.

Reneé Rapp

The famous singer and actress Reneé Rapp shared that she is a lesbian in 2024. She had previously said that she is bisexual, but now, the Snow Angel singer has spoken up about how she does not like men and has eyes only for women.

Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato

Known for her quirky personality on the Disney show Sonny with a Chance and her successful music career, Demi Lovato identifies herself as pansexual. The singer initially thought that she was bisexual and even came out to her parents in 2017, but eventually realized that she was pansexual. She has also talked about she is non binary and even adopted the pronouns they/them for a while but changed them back to she/her in 2023. Moreover, Lovato has also talked to Glamour magazine about how she is not into cisgender men as she is “too queer” for it.

Aubrey Plaza

The Parks and Recreation and The White Lotus actress Aubrey Plaza is a proud bisexual and has been open about her sexual preferences for quite a few years. 

In her interview with The Advocate, she shared how her family has other LGBT members and that her sister is also a lesbian. When the interviewer asked her if women come on to her, she replied, saying that women definitely come on to her because she has a sort of “masculine” energy. She further said that not only women are attracted to her, but she is attracted to them as well and accepted that she was bisexual then and there.

The singer Bea Kristi, better known as Beabadoobee, is bisexual. She has released love songs for both men and women.

Joe Locke

The Heartstopper actor Joe Locke has known that he was gay since he was 12 and has been open about it to his friends and family since then. However, he never accepted it in showbiz until his interview with Teen Vogue in August 2023, where he said, “I have been openly gay since I was, like, 12.” He also talked about how, before the interview, he had never shared this part of his life with the public, but people assumed it for him, and he just never felt the need to correct anyone.

Kit Connor

Kit Connor accepted that he is bisexual in a since-deleted tweet on X. The actor had to come out and accept his sexuality as fans were accusing him of queerbaiting after he played the role of Nick Nelson, a bisexual boy on the Netflix series Heartstopper.

Halsey is another bisexual celebrity who is proud to be a part of the LGBTQ+ community. She accepted that she was bisexual in her speech while accepting an award for the category of outstanding music artist at the Glaad Awards. 

In her speech, she said, “I’m a young bisexual woman, and I’ve spent a large part of my life trying to validate myself – to my friends, to my family, to myself – trying to prove that who I love and how I feel is not a phase; it’s not part of some confusion that’s going to change or could be manipulated.”

Known as the voice behind the bear Paddington, Ben Whishaw is gay. The actor didn’t come out to his family until he was 26 or 27. He didn’t even announce the news of his marriage to Mark Bradshaw publicly until one year after it in 2013. The couple has since parted ways in 2022.

Lili Reinhart accepted that she was bisexual on her Instagram story in 2020, writing, “Although I’ve never announced it publicly before, I am a proud bisexual woman.” The Riverdale actress also shared a poster that read, “LGBTQ+ for #BlackLivesMatter” for a protest that was taking place in West Hollywood at the time, urging fans to be there and confirming that she would also come out to the protest to show her support.

The pop sensation Janelle Monáe identifies herself as pansexual and is a proud queer female. She confirmed her sexuality in an interview with Rolling Stone in 2018, saying that although she first thought she was bisexual, she has realized that her preferences match best with being pansexual. She said, “But then later I read about pansexuality and was like, ‘Oh, these are things that I identify with too.’ I’m open to learning more about who I am.”

Over the years, Janelle has also come out as nonbinary and uses the pronouns she/her and they/them.

While giving a speech at the event, the star said, “Because of the intersections that exist in my own life: woman, multiracial woman, woman of colour, queer, bisexual, Mexican-Irish American, immigrant, and raised by families heavily rooted in Catholicism on both my Mexican and Irish sides, I am deeply invested in projects that allow our youth’s voices to be heard.”

In 2016, she had said that she was bisexual in an interview with Teen Vogue but eventually realized that she was gay. Since then, she has also identified herself as non-binary.

Through her Netflix docuseries, which premiered in 2018, Anitta admitted that she was bisexual. But she had come out of the closet in front of her family long before. She talked about the story of accepting her sexuality in front of her mom with the Los Angeles Times in 2022. The Brazilian hitmaker said that her first kiss was with a girl, but she told her about her mom after kissing a boy. Anitta had thought that there was something wrong with her for being attracted to both men and women, only to get a casual response from her mother.
